Favorite Photos Friday – Band Concert Week!
Quote of the Day: Music is your own experience, your thoughts, your wisdom. If you don’t live it, it won’t come out of your horn. ~Charlie Parker
Music is what life sounds like. ~ Eric Olson
8th grade Band
During The Temple of Ka Uka, the band used their hands and voices to add rhythm and sound.
It’s a song inspired by the sights and sounds of Hawai’i.
I didn’t get any good close-ups of the 6th grade band,
so my guys gave me a home concert.
Being in the band is a metaphor for life. The individual members need to work on their own instrument, carefully honing their craft. They can mark improvement in themselves while being part of a larger group. When they are all working in harmony, they are a powerful force. Each member contributes in his own way. Everyone working toward a common goal. You might be a leader, filled with melody, like the trumpets. You might be the strong bass, offering a foundation for the chords. You might be a specialized instrument like the piccolo or the French Horn, or you might be one of the varied pieces in the percussion section, offering a unique way to keep the rhythm.
Go. Create. Inpsire!
Journaling Prompt: What instrument are you most like? How do you and your craft fit into the big band of life?
I’m a cello! I’m big, warm, and I like to wrap people in love and goodness! 🙂
Ha! I think I’m a drum. I tend to bang around and make a lot of noise sometimes.
Mary, I love that about music too. You can make music on your own, but you can create such beautiful harmonies with someone else or a group. I loved seeing the boys; love the new haircuts and those smiles are awesome (nice shirts too). Fun times in the Aalgaard-Rude household, it looks like! Hope your week has gone well!
Well, I play the guitar but since I’m always walking to the beat of my own drummer–I guess I’m a drum.
Your boys are a-dorable.

I’m not sure how this would fit in, but I love to be on the receiving end of music, sitting in the concert audience and absorbing the experience. So I guess I like to be on the receiving end of life, too, taking it all in …
I’m a guitar – more complicated than I appear!
Drum all the way! Calculated but also free to dance.

I may play the violin, but I’m more like a tuba: I go in circles, but what I share is deep, and often resonates.
These are all great. Play on!
I’d like to think that I’m one of the unusual pieces in the percussion section. You know, the ones that make cool sounds.
I play the violin mostly on my own, but LOVE the way more than one violin sound playing together. It really makes a difference to make music with other people.
I love that all your guys play brass instruments! How fun (and noisy!!!) and big and loud 😀
I’ve been missing music lately. I grew up playing piano and singing but have been really craving a raw guitar sound of my very own. I miss singing also.
Instrument I am most like? You know, I don’t know! I’ve never thought about it. What an interesting and provocative question!
Happy weekend!
