We are at the end of April and the end of the alphabet. It’s been a marathon. I’ve enjoyed all the visiting and comments. I read daily posts from other bloggers. I’ve been able to share some pictures and stories. Now, I can relax a little and do a little more reading, writing, walking, listening to podcasts, and zen tangle art. I started doing these after I attended a women’s retreat where the artist showed us how to do them. A couple years later, adult coloring books showed up in stores. I’m not drawn to the printed pictures. I enjoy making my own and filling them in. It’s another form of creating, thinking, meditating, using color, and keeping my mind open and fluid. We learned a free form of this art, placing four dots on the page and connected them with loopy lines, then filling them in. I’ve been doing some that are a little more concrete, and I’ve gotten a few ideas from Pinterest.
Enjoy May, and spring time, or whatever season you’re in!
Journaling Prompt: Have you ever tried Zen Tangles? Do you like the adult coloring books? Where is your favorite place to walk or create?
I’ve seen Zen Tangle books before and thought it looked very interesting and relaxing. I haven’t tried it yet, but it seems like it would be a good hobby for living on a boat as the materials wouldn’t take up much space.
Congrats on making it to Z!
It would be a fun distraction for you.
My Zentangle story is a long one but I’ll try to give you a shortened version.
Late last year, after searching on my side of the globe for a recognised Zentangle tutor, I finally located somebody. Hip, hip hooray.
I was so excited.
I phoned the art centre (which was a 45 minute drive away) signed up for a beginners class and paid the fee into the banking account. I was all fired up and ready to Tangle Away!
Because the beginner’s course wasn’t held frequently, I had to plan ahead, and even took a day off from school because the Zentangle course was at midday…about 12 to 2 p.m.
No problem…I didn’t mind one bit.
The day arrived and I left early.
When I got to the place (after a bit of searching…and also worried that I was running about 15 minutes late) there was NO LESSON and NO TUTOR! Grrrrrr.
Apparently, the lady was in the process of relocating to another province, and therefore lessons had been cancelled. Nobody had the decency to phone me and let me know, considering I was travelling to the venue from out-of-town (petrol considerations??) *sigh*
To cut a long story short, they reimbursed me and gave me a voucher.
I just purchased my first adult coloring book about 2 months ago.
It’s a wrap!
Congrats on reaching the finishing line, Mary!
See you again next year – same time, same place!
How frustrating! I’d say, just jump right in. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. Let your pen, or pencil, flow around on your page, and start filling in the space with various colors. Some people also like to do black and white zen tangles.
Never done the adult coloring book thing, but I do like to color. I do sketch a lot and doodle for fun and mindmaps.
Juneta @ Writer’s Gambit
Sounds great, Juneta!
These are great, Mary. I have not seen them before. Looks like a great way to meditate and be creative. I’d be willing to try it, for sure!
Congrats on finishing the A-Z challenge!!
Liesbet @ Roaming About – A Life Less Ordinary
These coloring books are quite popular now. One of these days…. Have fun and relax at the retreat. I really enjoyed your a-z. Congratulations finishing!

Thanks, Scarlett!
I like the way the center tree looks. I’m a sucker for blown up compositions.
