Quote of the Day: from the poem
Such Singing in the Wild Branches
by Mary Oliver
Listen, everyone has a chance.
Is it spring, is it morning?
Are there trees near you,
and does your own soul need comforting?
Quick, then – open the door and fly on your heavy feet;
the song may already be drifting away.
This lovely award is from a new bloggie friend, Jen Daiker at Unedited. The flowers and the color are bright and cheerful, like this beautiful spring Sunday in Minnesota. After a week of grey skies, rain, and foggy mornings, the sun is out today. Glorious morning! I can smell spring.
And, this great award is from Kittie Howard at The Block. Kittie has the most interesting stories. Whenever you need something fascinating and inspirational, go to The Block. Read about “What Seven Remarkable People Wanted. You can find the series archived between November and February.” She also has great stories of life in the Bayou.
Today, in the Brainerd lakes area, the temps are in the upper 50’s! I took my first bike ride of the season around the little lake in town, then around the middle school and back home. I’m tired. Still, when a friend/neighbor called and asked if I want to walk with her and the dog, I couldn’t resist. Spring in Minnesota in the middle of March is irresistible.
The “walk” was more of a stroll about the neighborhood, greeting the folks we haven’t seen since October. The theme of the day was “Everything with Wheels”. People were either wearing them, riding them, or washing them.
Came home, whipped up a batch of brownies and took a long bath. Ahh, that’s what good Sundays are made of. (And, yes, I did remember to spring ahead with my clocks and made it to church on time with two of my boys!)
Journaling Prompt: What signs of spring do you see in your life?
Congratulations on your awards and the bike ride and the brownies. Sounds like a perfect Sunday. 🙂
Amen, to that, Sarahjayne!
Congratulations, Mary. Well-deserved! And I loved your award upon coming home after a lovely spring walk…can smell those brownies baking! A sign of spring here in Virginia is that my tulips are nudging upward. Can’t wait to see those blooms! Happy Spring!
Thanks, Kittie, and I can just see your tulips ready to bloom – my favorite flower! And, the brownies are delicious.
Congrats on your Awards, an inspiring way to begin the week! We had a sure sign of spring here the past two days … rain, rain, rain. It rained buckets. Now if only the grass would green, everything’s still winter-brown :/
We had rain all last week, but needed lots of snow to melt. We’re also wishing for green grass and buds on trees.
I am so glad you were out in that beautiful weather! The signs of spring are when the kids come inside with mud and water slimed up their backs and have to change!!!
Yes, JeMA, spring equals more laundry and a constant search for clean socks!
Wonderful quote! We’re finally seeing some signs of spring here in Georgia. It was rainy this weekend, but this Monday has been bright and blue. I can’t wait to get off work and go for a walk!
Thanks for the comment on my blog this morning! Another wise quote I’ll be copying down to read over and over again.
Looking forward to more news of the play! I’ll be posting later about the script 🙂
Jen
Oooh, Jen, I can’t wait to hear about your script. I know I had promised an introduction to my characters last week, and am having tremendous bloggers guilt for not producing. I want to introduce them. I have it to tell, but other things moved to the front of the line. Soon!
Brownies and a long bath…*sigh*. Congrats on the awards, Mary.
Signs of spring in my life:
~ The boys practicing with the baseball pitching machine in the back yard.
~ 45 degree days.
~ Spring break fever rampant among my high school students.
~ The countdown to opening day of major league baseball!!!! 🙂
Shannon, the sound of ball on bat is a sure sign of spring 10, 9, 8, 7…
The snow is gone! Oh, thank God in heaven, the snow is gone and my students no longer wrangle with snowpants, cumbersome boots, hats, mittens, and scarves!
*sigh of relief*
Great post, Mary!
