Quote of the Day: Well-behaved women seldom make history. attributed to Eleanor Roosevelt, and others.
Theatre Elision’s production of Well-Behaved Women, a song cycle about women making history is playing at the Elision Playhouse, February 9-18, 2023. I’ll be there, but not until the end of the run, so I wanted to get the word out. Whatever Theatre Elision does is wonderful, and I try to get to all their productions. However, they have short runs, and sometimes I don’t make it. I finally got to Ghost Quartet last fall and loved it. I’ll go again. I think they’re making that one an annual show for the fall season. I also loved The Islander, Ragtime Women and Remembering Pins and Needles.
From their press release:
At a time when women’s voices struggle to be heard, Carmel Dean imagined what famous women in history would say if given a microphone. Through the voices of Eve, Mary Magdalene, Cleopatra, Harriet Tubman and many more, we hear songs of courage, strength, rage and resilience. The songs range from rock and jazz to country, and are at times painful, heart-warming, and hilarious. Our group of seven Twin Cities singers portray nineteen women — some you will recognize, others you learn about for the first time.
Special Galentine’s Performance on February 14. $29 includes show, pre-show drink coupon, music and hors d-oeuvres.
They posted a little preview of the music on Youtube.
Visit the website for Theatre Elision for tickets and showtimes. I highly recommend this theater company.
