Quote of the Day: Press Release on New Voices, streaming, from Lyric Arts
ANOKA, MN (6/07/21) — Lyric Arts Company of Anoka is honored to
be opening their production of NEW VOICES CABARET this coming
Friday, June 11, 2021. This cabaret features the work of nine artists
presenting evening of songs, monologues, story-telling, and more in
a new work centered around these diverse, stellar young performers.
Directed by REESE BRITTS, (HAIRSPRAY, RENT, YOUNG
FRANKENSTEIN), the list of artists featured include MITCHELL
DOUGLAS, BRENDAN NELSON FINN, DERYCK HAK, CHLOE
HART, LAUREN HUGH, ILERI OKIKIOLU, CLAY MAN SOO, EMMA
SCHULD, and JANELY RODRIGUEZ. All of these actors are brand
new to the Anoka company, however their experience is far from
minimal. Many hold performance credits with such well-known
theatrical institutions like Ordway Center for the Performing Arts,
Guthrie Theater, Children’s Theater Company, Theater Latté Da, and
more.
In this cabaret, each performer presents two pieces that not only
show off their talent, but allow the performer to tell a story—inviting
the audience in to their world and their heart, albeit if only for a few
moments. “This cabaret features songs and stories that you may have
heard before but there are also some pieces that may be new to
you,” says director Reese Britts. “We have the privilege to hear these
stories that rarely get told in

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to these performances. These emerging artists have already done great work, and we can expect to see more of them in the near future. They chose songs from new musicals, monologues from a variety of sources, and a couple were original works. I loved all the energy and skill they portrayed.
