Quote of the Day: Community theater builds communities!
We have a great line-up of summer theater in the Brainerd lakes area. So, whether you’re a resident or visiting for the summer, come check out the talent and fun shows.
Brainerd Community Theater (BCT) at Central Lakes College (CLC) opens with The Sunshine Boys on June 25, directed by Beth Selinger. One of Neil Simon’s most popular plays, The Sunshine Boys takes us into the room of a retired Vaudeville star with visits from his partner, and other people in his life. Much like The Odd Couple, the two have a relationship that spans years and challenges egos. All performances start at 7:30 and runs through July 3, 2019, on the college’s Chalberg Stage. For more information on performances and tickets, visit the CLC Performing Arts website, or call their box office 218-855-8199.
Also at CLC in the Dryden Theater is The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), directed by Laura Marsolek. In this high-energy romp through the master’s works, characters and story lines get mixed up, three actors play all the roles, and there is some audience involvement. The show runs from July 15-24, all performances are at 7:30. For more information on performances and tickets, visit the CLC Performing Arts website, or call their box office 218-855-8199.
A little further north in Pequot Lakes is Disney’s The Little Mermaid, directed by Travis Chaput. Greater Lakes Area Performing Arts (GLAPA) performs at the Pequot Lakes High School. Get your tickets early for this popular show! Performances run from July 17-27, both evening and matinee shows are available, and ASL interpretation on July 21 and 26. Visit the GLAPA website, or call 218-568-9200 for more information on performances and purchasing tickets.
To close out our summer and ease us into the fall, BCT at CLC is producing Mamma Mia! on their Chalberg Stage, directed by Amy Borash. Yours truly is in the ensemble and I couldn’t be more thrilled. The music of ABBA, a mother/daughter story, strong women, great music, fun staging. Get your tickets early for this one! Performances run August 27 – September 7, 2019, all shows are at 7:30. For more information on performances and tickets, visit the CLC Performing Arts website, or call their box office 218-855-8199.
Go. Create. Inspire! And, support your local artists, whatever they do, wherever you are.
I’ll be reviewing all the shows, except Mamma Mia! of course. I’ll have a guest reviewer for that one, since I’m in it. Come out and enjoy. Stop back later for the reviews!
Journaling Prompt: What are local artists doing in your area this season?
Great selection of plays coming.
And dig your new header!
Thanks, Alex!
Wonderful recap! We’re lucky to have such a vibrant theater scene in the area. I’m biased, but looking forward to Mama Mia (with you in it!) the most!
