Quote of the Day: Rainy days and Mondays always get me down. by The Carpenters
We have had lots and lots of rain. I woke up Saturday morning to a big thunderstorm.
It was a dark and gloomy morning….
That could be a story starter, but it doesn’t have the same ring as dark and stormy night. Gloomy mornings just make me want to lie around in my jammies, drink coffee, read blogs, and put in another dvd of Castle. I’m late discovering that great show about a mystery writer and a female detective. What a great character he is – a bit egotistical, yet a caring and concerned father, and a guy who loves a good story. His crime solving skill is to ask the question: What would make a better story? It’s fun. I have to rewatch episodes sometimes because I miss the subtle clues.
After about three episodes on Saturday morning, I felt like a big slug, so I played piano to my creative juices flowing, then packed up my laptop and headed to a nearby restaurant/coffee shop. They have a great summer chicken salad wrap, wifi, and a fairly quiet room. The lunch was great and I worked on an article for Her Voice on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
Sometimes, you need a change of scenery to get creative and concentrate.
Journaling Prompt: Where do you like to go to get creative or take a break from the same old, same old, and beat the gloomy days?
I love Castle, and we could really use your rain. We’re worried about forest fires here with how dry it is.
As for where do I write best? In my kitchen with the patio door letting in all the light. I have a basement office that I put hours into creating as a nice space, but I can’t work down there any longer. I crave the outdoor light too much.
Mary, well right now I’m at a local Starbuck’s while my two little guys are taking in their first day of Vacation Bible School. I’m hoping to get some work done while I’m away from the clutter of home life, and seated at a wooden laptop table looking out at 32nd Avenue. 🙂 I hope your morning was successful!
Gloomy rainy days also mean I don’t have to mow the lawn! And Castle is a great show. You weren’t being lazy, you were seeking inspiration.
Usually a little music in the car gets my mind on track.
Ever since college, I’ve had to leave the house to concentrate. I love a good coffee shop.
I’m sad to report that I have yet to find the trigger than inspires me. It comes and goes. I think the best thing for me is to be isolated.
Hi Mary, just stopping by to let you know I have an award for you on my latest post. Don’t feel obligated, just a way of saying keep up the good work.

Aw, Mary, that sounds like a lovely morning. The rain and the slow pace of the morning–it sounds just delightful. Then ready to write uplifting articles, like the Alzheimer’s article for a community magazine. You are amazing!
