Quote of the Day: Long before I wrote stories. I listened for stories. ~ Eudora Welty
Gifted writers have gifted ears. ~ Curtis W. Casewil
Alex J. Cavanaugh, host of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group, gave us permission to post our usual Insecure post on the first Wednesday of each month on a Tuesday this month, because we’re celebrating Indpendence Day here in the U.S.A. on July 4. Since this is usually a time when family and friends gather, it seems like a good theme for this month’s posting.
What inspires you? What do you do when you are feeling isolated, blocked, discouraged, or stuck in your art?
Gather a few friends around your kitchen table and talk about your hopes & dreams, your goals and ambitions.
The creative energy around my kitchen table last Friday night was inspiring. Here are three of my favorite people talking about what they love to do, what inspires them, and what they’d like to do with their gifts and talents.
On Sunday, my friend, the artist JeMA, and her family parked their RV in the park for Art in the Park Day. They have turned their plain ole RV into a public art project. They ask you to put on a dot and tell them three things that inspire you. You can participate remotely by going to their website, Inspire to Inspire.
Share your art and ideas with other people.
Hang out with other creative spirits.
Collaborate, support, and encourage one another.
Go. Create. Inspire!
Journaling Prompt: What inspires you? Go to JeMA’s website and share it if you like. Journal it; share it here; whisper it to a trusted friend.
Wish I could hang out with some creative people I know online!
Love this most, Mary. And Alex, wouldn’t that be awesome.

That sounded like a fun round table.
I’ll go see Jema.

There have been times when I’ve spent time with at least one good friend who is a writer, and just talking makes the whole thing seem a lot easier to do.
What a fun time to spend. I wish I had fellow writers or creative people living close to me.
Music inspires me. I always have a stock of instrumentals I play when I sit down to write.
I like hanging out with creative people too. I don’t think you have to look that far to find them.
I’ve experienced the “kitchen table” affect a couple times, and I wish I could do it more regularly! A bouillabaisse of creative juices is really extraordinary!! 🙂
JeMA’s project looks amazing(especially the orange. . . which is a color that inspires me). I went to the Corning Museum of Glass on vacation–it’s like going to glass Mecca, and it inspires me with refreshing beauty.
Lots of things inspire me. Sounds, smells, dancing, music, colors…
Thank you for this post. So often I feel alone in finding my inspiration unless I rely on my writer friends. It’s a good reminder that good people, (even those that don’t write or *gasp* enjoy reading, can really buoy us up and get our creative juices flowing again.
Well met, Mary!
I love the RV art idea! It’s a great way of building up parts of the community.
I’ll pop on JeMA’s site and share my thoughts too. Thanks 🙂
Looks like you’re having so much fun. Loved the post. I smiled while I read it!
Mary, I didn’t recognize Jema! What a fun RV. I’m glad you all are still in the zone, and fun to see you in the zone together. Please say Hi from me!

The RV looks like a fun concept. I play with words and ideas when I get stuck, just to allows new creative juices to flow 🙂
I agree with Alex. The creative people I know are all on the internet! So……….I guess the internet is one of my inspirations!
Wow, that sounds like a very interesting round table gathering!
Imagine if the creative souls from the blogosphere could get together in this way?
The RV exploration is a great idea! So glad you have such engaging friends who inspire you! Julie
