The Quote of the Day that inspired my A to Z Challenge theme –
A Word for the Day that takes on many meanings.
Quote of the Day: A writer lives in awe of words for they can be cruel or kind, and they can change their meanings right in front of you. They pick up flavors and odors like butter in a refrigerator. John Steinbeck
Word of the Day: Joy

Our cousin Angie described the difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is on the surface, like the waves. It has peaks and valleys and is determined by outside forces. Joy is what lies underneath, the steady calm. You can be at a valley in life, yet still feel the deeper contentment of knowing that joy dwells within you and it will soon surface again.
Joy is also the name of my younger sister. When she’s performing or teaching, she is a joy to others. She just started blogging this year, and said YES! to the A to Z Blog Challenge. Click on over to her blog, It’s a Joy! and say hello. It’s a cheerful and inspiration blog.
Go. Create. Inspire!
Journaling Prompt:Â Where does your joy come from?
My joy comes from simplicity, from my husband, my friends, my family and mostly my faith.
Joy to me is the inner peace I feel, no special reason just being happy.
Yvonne.
I love that difference between happiness and Joy.Never thought of it that way.

Love it! My word today was JOY also:

I just read on another blog that today is Sibling Recognition Day, so I’m raising my coffee cup in a toast to you and your sister Joy … Cheers 🙂
Joy just feels more like a “from the inside out” kind of emotion. Great J entry.
My joy comes from the fact that I know myself and can rely on always bouncing up from the waves that crash over me.

It’s an interesting way to look a joy. I think sometimes I get caught up in the happiness issue, I lose track of my joy, but is always there, in many places: family, friends, poetry, books, food.
My joy I think comes from peace.

My joy comes from the Good Lord above! And love the John Steinbeck quote.
Joy for me is being outside, in the sunshine, or curled up with a good book, or being out and about with my husband. I’d also say that the ocean is joy for me 😀 Always changing and moody and beautiful.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Hi Mary! Love the “Joy” post. Also, what Angie said is very insightful.
Thanks for sending people my way today. Big Hug.
I love that Steinbeck quote, and I also love how your cousin described the difference between happiness and joy. I’d never really thought of it before, but what a perfect description. My joy comes from my family, my writing, and making others happy. Wishing you lots of joy in your life!
Your cousin hit the nail on the head. For me, joy is when the eyes open in the morning, I stretch, and smile.
Joy definitely has that deeper sense to it that is more affected by the internal than the external. I like that word.
Joy come from being at peace with yourself.
What a joyful and inspiring post! It made me feel all happy inside. 🙂
I’ll go check out your sisters blog.
My joy. From simple daily rituals. I’m off to visit your sis – thanks for the link

I love how Angie described the difference between happiness and joy. Really has me thinking.
My true joy comes from God.
I chose ‘Joy’ also for my J, but still learned a lot from this post. Well done! 🙂
My joy comes from Jesus Christ!
JOY TO THE WORLD…one of my favorite Three Dog Night songs! 🙂
My joy comes from a little baby boy. Baby laughs are infectious. But, you know, in a good way.
I love joy, Mary, for the reasons you described. It’s much deeper, more even, more enduring than happiness. It’s a word that, when you’re living right and well, can stay with you and keep you company. I love joy and am grateful for it!
I got that joy down in my heart! Love your post, Mary! You gave me joy with your words today! I have a lot of joy right now. Mostly because Christopher is doing so well. You know that has got to make me swell up with joy. xo
I like that description of joy and happiness. My joy comes from my son.
Hi Mary! Enjoyed your post. My joy comes from my faith, my family and my friends. I also get joy from my writing.

PUTTING WORDS DOWN ON PAPER
Love what your cousin had to say. Joy is a gift of the spirit. It lives within us.
