Quote of the Day: It is in your hands to create a better world for all who live in it. Nelson Mandela

I’d like to bring back Favorite Photo Fridays. I did this a while back, but have gotten away from doing more personal, creative posts. When I look back over the past year, or so, it’s all theater reviews and Insecure Writer’s Support Group posts. I’d like to add a little more creativity and reflection.

I work occasionally at an assisted living/memory care facility. It’s a wonderful place for me to use my talents and interact with people. I do everything from leading worship and music to crafts and coffee time in the memory care area. I have found that I really enjoy the interactions. When I work in memory care, I try to find ways to engage with the residents. I’m in the moment with them, the best that we all can be. I’ve heard many stories, shared laughs, songs, and some worries and tears.

These aren’t great photos. I shot them with my phone. But, I love to photograph hands, especially when people are doing tasks that they love and creating something. It’s a challenge to find tasks that everyone can do in memory care. Some people have vision impairment. Many have hearing loss. Others have limited fine motor skills. Some days, a cup of coffee, a few pictures of farm life or people out on the lake are all we need to spark some conversation.

Go. Create. Inspire!

Quote of the Day: If someone took a picture of your hands doing something you love, what would that be? Do you have any suggestions on activities for people in memory care?
