I am participating in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge. My theme is open-ended. My goal is to write daily posts using each letter of the alphabet in April (Sundays off for good behavior and to make it work for the alphabet). I’ll be writing family stories, memoir or journal prompts, reviews about theatre and food, maybe a visit from my sock puppet characters Millie and Willie, and using photos I’ve taken along the way. Enjoy!
The only way to see the inner island of Kauai is to take a helicopter ride over it. Kauai is populated all along the coast, with about a quarter of it not accessible to regular folk. Only certain people are allowed there. The inner island is a tropical rain forest. Since it was a trip of a lifetime for us to vacation for a week on the island of Kauai this past January, we decided to spring for the helicopter ride. It was worth it. I got some great pictures, and it was fun to fly over the island. Kauai is the garden island of the Hawaiian Islands. It rains somewhere on the island every day and averages 50-100 inches annually. I’ll let the photos tell the rest of the story.
Go. Create. Inspire!
Journaling Prompt: Have you ever taken a helicopter ride?
How amazing. Glad I popped over here today. On a cold day in London this seems like the perfect escape!

Glad I could give you a photographic tour.
I’m not much for flying, but that ride I want to go on. Glad you got the opportunity!
Hawaii is so beautiful. When I stayed on the big island of Hawaii that feeling on being on a small piece of land in the middle of the great big ocean was surreal. They had some the most beautiful and darkest night skies I have ever experience. I bet that helicopter ride was incredible. Ah, you make me want to go back.

Looks like an awesome experience, beautiful pictures! I’ve never had a helicopter ride and since I’ve a slight vertigo, I know I’ll only try it for some photo opportunities ?

Take come Dramamine and give it a try, Andrea!
Small plane and microlight is as close as I’ve gotten. I really wish I’d gone to Kauai instead of Maui–from what I heard afterward, I think it would have been a lot closer to the Hawaii of my dreams.
Alyssa is quite beautiful. 🙂 She has a lovely smile.
Thank you, Holli. I hope you get a chance to experience Kauai!
I spent five days on Kauai, but didn’t do the helicopter tour. Seems that was a giant mistake!
Next time, Ryan!
I am terrified of helicopters both rides on one were traumatic for me, but wow one like this would balance things a bit.
I was tempted to take the Grand Canyon helicopter tour but chickened out.
Hawaii truly is heavenly!
Oh, Doreen, I hope you get brave and try it again. This ride went very well. Much smoother than I thought it would be. Over the Grand Canyon, would be fantastic.
Beautiful shots, Mary. I would be a little apprehensive about a helicopter ride, but this might be the exception. Gorgeous waterfall, as seen from above.
Thanks, Silvia.
Yes, I have taken a helicopter ride! I flew over the island of Tahiti and saw wonderful waterfalls and lush green mountains much like your photos. I’m so glad you got to experience this! Hang loose!
Thanks, Lauren!
I did took a helicopter ride like this over 20 years ago! Very memorable.
Glad you had fun!
Mary, what fun. I’m from the Keys and did a lot of helicopter flying as a kid. Would LOVE to take the tour you did. Magnificent.
Thanks for stopping by, Robyn!
Lovely photos, Mary!
I haven’t been in a helicopter…yet…but I have been in a lightweight airplane, you know those 16 seaters?
I always forget how to pronounce Kauai…
