Sanctuary Restaurant in Minneapolis, MN

The Sanctuary restaurant is located on Washington Avenue in Minneapolis, MN, ┬ájust a few blocks from the Guthrie Theater. The Biker Chef and I were down for a couple shows, and were looking for a dining adventure, so we popped into Sanctuary. Just as the waitress was introducing us to the menu, Chef Patrick walked out to say hello and admire her new ink (tattoo). The Chefs greeted each other and we felt welcomed into Chef Patrick’s culinary home. After being greeted, seated, and watered, we scanned the wine/beverage list and decided to share a bottle of Riesling, reasonably priced and delicious. Then, we discussed the appetizers, so many choices, some more exotic than others. The Biker Chef was leaning towards the Tequila braised beef tongue tacos. I felt a little less daring, so we went with the spinach artichoke tartlets, served with ver jus, lavender seeds, cornichon, and a really good olive. The waitress gave us instructions on how to eat this dish. You start with an olive, followed by the cornichon (pickle), a seed or two of the lavendar, then the tartlet. Chase all that down with a sip of the ver jus (tastes like white grape juice). Oh, my, yes, that is a lovely combination of flavors.
