Quote of the Day: a few lines from my play Coffee Shop Confessions
Nick: (writer, eavesdropping on the women as they interact and sing at the coffee shop) That was amazing. What’s the name of your group? Aubrey: (sassy hair stylist and member of the singing group) We call ourselves the Moxie Mamas. Lolly: (oldest member of the singing group, in an earlier scene) You’ve got moxie. Micki: (teenage girl at a moment of uncertainty of who she is what she wants) Whatever that means. Lolly: Snazz and pizzaz. You have what Hollywood calls “It” to really be something.

And, so it goes that art imitates life as life is imitating art and one artist inspires the other. Aubrey Lindsay is the real life hair stylist who inspired the character Aubrey that I ended up playing in Coffee Shop Confessions, which we performed two years ago. Aubrey Lindsay was in the audience during opening weekend and had her own inspiration. She had been thinking about opening up her own hair salon and during our performance had the epiphany to call it Moxy Hair Studio.
She and her business partner Katie opened their new business January 2, 2014. They have an adorable shop, complete with chandeliers, coffee, and of course, great conversation. I imagine they might have heard their own share of “salon chair confessions.” I visited my favorite hair stylist yesterday to give her a hug, a card, and a little love.
I’m so happy for Aubrey, Katie and the other stylist at Moxy Hair Studio. They are excited for Wedding Season here in the Brainerd lakes area and plan to be the Salon of choice for bridal parties. They have a special room for the bride and her friends to hang out and enjoy some refreshments as they get glammed up for the big day.
You can find Moxy Hair Studio in downtown Nisswa, MN, on facebook, or call Aubrey at 218-961-1015.
