Quote of the Day:  Giving Chocolate to others is an intimate form of communication, a sharing of deep, dark secrets. Milton Zelman, publisher of “Chocolate News”

Forget love, I’d rather fall in chocolate! (Nancy at Fancy Pants Chocolates, downtown Brainerd, has this sign in her shop.)

If it ain’t chocolate, it ain’t breakfast. (I enjoyed an award-winning white chocolate blueberry scone for breakfast this morning.)

Chocolate causes certain endocrine glands to secrete hormones that affect your feelings and behavior by making you happy. Therefore, it counteracts depression, in turn reducing the stress of depression. Your stress-free life helps you maintain a youthful disposition, both physically and mentally. So, eat lots of chocolate! Elaine Sherman, Book of Divine Indulgences

My favorites are her sea salt dark chocolate caramels, and chocolate chippers (chocolate covered potato chips, mmm, mmm)

On Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, Brainerd Community Action, under the direction of Nancy Cross, hosted a Chocolate Lover’s Extravaganza at the Westgate mall. You paid $15 per person to graze the tables of local vendors to your chocolate heart’s content. Ted Feyder provided the music, and Riddle’s Jewelry donated a Mocha diamond ring. Proceeds went to our local Crisis Line. I assisted The Biker Chef who provided white chocolate blueberry scones (his best seller) and strawberry dark chocolate scones. They were scrumptious.

An inviting display of deliciousness.
He wore his chef’s jacket from Bay Concesssions.
I wore the fun vest he bought for me at the Renn Fest to go with the sweetheart theme.
We were located next to Coco Moon (our favorite coffee shop, downtown Brainerd).
You can get the Chef’s scones there with your cup of joe.
My friend Jackie with her Edible Art was there.
She also supplies Coco Moon with her amazing sweet treats.
Jackie and her assistant, daughter Taylor.
Jackie specializes in Wedding Cakes.
Other participants were Cash Wise liquor, Prairie Bay, Olive Garden, Cub Foods, and Country Kitchen. (sorry I didn’t get pictures of everyone)
Mary Marana from Crisis Line shows off the traveling People’s Choice Award.
Representative John Ward and our local “Elvis” mc Bill Musel.
The Chef, center stage, in the sea of chocolate lovers.
Lookin’ good and sharin’ scones.

And, the winner of the People’s Choice Award….
The Biker Chef from Bay Concessions for his scones!!!
What’s the secret ingredient, Chef?
“It’s no secret,” he says, “You gotta put a little love in it.”
And, congrats to Jackie, Edible Art, and her mom who won the Mocha diamond from Riddle’s Jewelry!
Thanks, also, to BL Broadcasting and The Brainerd Dispatch for advertising this event. The Miss Brainerd Minnesota Teen pageant queens were also there, as well as Mrs. Minnesota. It was fun to see so many people from the community come out to satisfy their chocolate cravings and support the Crisis Line. Thanks for your votes for Bay Concessions. Journaling Prompt:  Have you ever won something like a People’s Choice award? What’s your favorite chocolate indulgence?
