Quote of the Day: from We Need a Little Christmas
Haul out the holly;
Put up the tree before my spirit falls again.
Fill up the stocking,
I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now.
For we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute,
Candles in the window,
Carols at the spinet.
Yes, we need a little Christmas
Right this very minute.
It hasn’t snowed a single flurry,
But Santa, dear, we’re in a hurry;
So climb down the chimney;
…..
For we need a little music,
Need a little laughter,
Need a little singing
Ringing through the rafter,
And we need a little snappy
“Happy ever after,”
Need a little Christmas now.
My students and I brought some comfort and joy to the folks at an assisted living center in town. We’re here in the memory care unit bringing back some childhood memories. All these students played a few numbers, then we sang a few favorites. What a way to lift holiday spirits.
That’s all you need to do, folks. The perfect gift doesn’t exist. The best made travel plans can be grounded by a snowstorm or unexpected emergency. The impossible moment will never be achieved. All you really need to do is show up. Be present. Share your gifts and talents. Pay attention to those around you who need you. Then, you’ll have Christmas in your heart all year.
From A Christmas Carol at The Guthrie to our small gift of music today, I know where the true spirit of Christmas lies. Next weekend, I’ll be sitting back and enjoying the gorgeous music of my favorite regional choir, From Age to Age.
Go. Create. Inpsire!
And, don’t get caught up in the crazy.
Journaling Prompt: What does the true sense of giving mean to you?
I think the true sense of giving is to give-back. That’s what’s behind the gifts I’ve bought, it’s a way to give back some of the love I feel from certain people in my life.
That was a wonderful thing! I’m sure those folks appreciated your singing.
Now that my kids are older, we enjoy preparing stockings for needy kids in our school district and this year, one of my daughter’s clubs had a PJ drive. It was so fun shopping for those little footed jammies. I hope they keep someone warm and snug this winter.
What a great picture. And I know you all made some people smile with your singing. 🙂
You look great behind that piano, Mary…a very natural look. 🙂 And I have fond memories of singing at the nursing home, my sister and I, while my mom played for us. I didn’t realize then, I don’t think, how “big” that was; how important it might really be to the residents. Someday, we’ll be there too. Who will sing for us? 🙂
A lovely gift for the folks and seeing kids involved, must be heartwarming.I think giving of time which is so precious to all of us is a great gift – when we are there we can interact and bring our cheer to the needy and see them smile too:)) Happy Christmas to you and your family.
What an inspiring post and such a great reminder, Mary! Merry Christmas to you. 🙂
a perfect reminder. thank you.
‘All you really need to do is show up.’
This applies on such a vast scale …
