Quote of the Day: Chorus of Sunrise, Sunset, from the musical Fiddler on the Roof
Sunrise, sunset,
Sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly flow the days;
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers,
Blossoming even as we gaze.
Sunrise, sunset,
Sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly fly the years;
One season following another,
Laden with happiness and tears.
Are any of these magazine covers familiar to you? Do you remember reading Highlights for Children at the dentist’s office like I did? Does it make you feel wistful? These magazines are filled with words and images from our youth. Just a few days ago, I was in the offices where the creative team works on this magazine. I flipped through these older issues. I stood in the presence of people who love to bring stories to children.
I attended a workshop for writers at the founders’ home in the Poconos, along a beautiful creek, near Honesdale, PA. We stayed in our own cabins and met at the house for meals and learning. All of our needs were met. The food was made by loving and skilled hands with home grown vegetables and the 4H pig. We could focus on being writers, our connections with each other, and our gifts of storytelling.
Bridges and flowing water of ideas and people,
Glimpses back into our past,
Hope for our futures,
Connections made in a brief moment of time
That will last forever.
On my return flight, I looked out the window, again, as we were descending into the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, and was given the gift of a beautiful sunset.
The journey is not over. The path continues on.
Come back this week to meet my new writer friends and read about some of what we learned in a few days together.
Go. Create. Inspire!
Journaling Prompt: Where would you like to go to be inspired?
Mary, I love, love, love what you did with the photo that Ashley took of us walking along that beautiful path. Oh, we are so filled with loveliness, I feel I could burst, couldn’t you? Thank you, friend, for journeying with me. It is not done, indeed!
This sounds fabulous. I think one of the gals from my kidlit group was there–did you meet a Kathye?
Anyway, your photos make me homesick. I grew up about an hour west of Honesdale. Philly lacks those gorgeous mountains. Sigh.
It looks like such a tranquil place for a retreat, I’m sure you had a beautiful week. I often find inspiration when I spend time at the beach, near the sea. It’s a place that moves me in a way other places never do. The salt, the sea, openness, life.
So much beauty, Mary. I’m glad you had such a wonderful time. I look forward to hearing all about it! 🙂
Roxane, we will journey on!
Laurel, I thought of you often. I hope you seek inspiration from where you are and where you’ve been.
Joanne, you know where to go for inspiration.
Shannon, some day, I’d love to share an experience like this with you.
That’s great. I’m so happy you had a great experience!
PS. I still order Highlights mag for my kidlet. 🙂
Would have LOVED being there with y’all. TO ME this is the idea of a writers retreat!!!
Hmmm. God has given me a nice office with my mementoes, art, and music. I’ll stick with it.
Yes, I actually mentioned Highlights in one of my first two books. It’s embarrassing I don’t remember which!
Or maybe that’s one of the scenes that got axed… LOL
Blessings,
Patti
I’m so glad it was an amazing experience. I look forward to hearing more!
I like you two on the path, journeying onward! So glad you had a profound experience!
