Quote of the Day: words from a childhood song, remembered and rewritten in my own version. I saw a couple other versions on bus songs.com.
Sing, sing, my playmate,
Come out and play with me,
And, bring your dollies three,
Climb up my apple tree,
Look down my rain barrel,
Slide down my slipery slide,
And, we’ll be jolly friends,
forever more, more, more, more, more….
(I did a hand clapping routine here with a friend. It made my bus rides, to and from school for over an hour, go much faster. Miss you, Michelle!)
When we were at Mount Carmel for our Women’s Retreat, we found time to play. Here, JeMA and Joy (my little sister) are playing in the leaves. We also took a walk, played a board game, and fooled around with the art supplies.
Some of us aren’t entirely comfortable with a paintbrush.
While the artist finds it relaxing and playful.
Mother and Daughter spent the weekend together talking, creating, listening and playing. I saw them on the swingset as I was walking into the chapel. It was probably the only time I didn’t have my camera around my neck. But, I paused anyway, watching them swing, smile and play. They told me later that it was because we had helped them release their inner child.
Take some time to play this weekend. What might you create? Art, music, a memory?
Go, Create, Inspire!
Play on!
Journaling Prompt: What did you, or will you do, for play this weekend?
Ok Mary, I had a conversation about 20 minutes ago with a girlfriend and we scheduled a “play date.” How did you know??
Good blog!

It is so fun to play! I am so glad you caught Laura and Linda in a photo together! They cheered up the front row!
Joy, have fun on your “play date”!
I like Joy’s idea to schedule a “Play Date!” We’ll have fun this weekend fall decorating, setting out mums and arranging the scarecrows to add some whimsy to the landscaping … for us and passersby 🙂
I love the idea of scheduling a Play Date. Men do cave man stuff and think nothing of it. I sometimes think women think that if they have silly fun they’ll look, well, silly and lose respect. Not so! We gals like to kick back, too! Have a great weekend, Mary, having fun!
Mary,
I finally have had a few minutes to catch up on your blog posts. The retreat sounds like so much fun! Your an inspiration!
Blessings on your weekend!
ps. I was unable to find the Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron (sp?) in the library, but did read another of her books. Loved it! Now, I am subtly suggesting to my hubby that I would love the Artist’s Way as a get well gift instead of flowers when I go in for surgery. (My hubby is the kind of guy who likes it when I tell him what would “surprise” me:) Thanks for the lead on this author and her life transforming books.
I am. I am going to Silver Dollar City in Branson, to play.
Oh Mary, you’re singin’ my tune and talkin’ my language. Hand-clap play is literally my bread and butter…and I love best the songs children compose, like “Miss Mary Mack, Mack, Mack…” (reference to your name unintentional, but fun nonetheless).
Fall is the perfect time for outdoor play. There’s something invigorating about bundling up in jackets and kicking the leaves. Ah, I must make time to play this weekend…if only on this computer!
God bless you. 🙂
What a great reminder, Mary. I love it when I tap into my inner child. She is still yearning for more play time. As a mother of five it can be difficult finding that time, and yet, with them it can also be so EASY once I recognize the opportunities.
Off to the soccer field now. Hope you’re having a wonderful, playful weekend!
This is great! Thank you for so much inspiration. Peace and all good things for you in creativity and in life.
Sincerely,
Diane
